Abstract
1407702 Waveguides for the circularelectric mode WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 4 Dec 1972 [8 Dec 1971] 55828/72 Heading H1W A waveguide is supported within a protective conduit by means of a compressible helical member or members. Waveguide 4 may be a helix guide or other kind of circular-electric H 01 -mode guide and is supported within a rigid tube 2 of metal or PVC by means of a single helix (Fig. 1, not shown) or a multiple helix 7 of compressible material. The elongated members from which the helices are fashioned may be rubber tubing (as shown), coiled rods or tubes (Fig. 4, not shown) or stranded rods or tubes (Fig. 5, not shown). In all cases the members intially offer a high compliance due to initial collapse of the tube, spring &c., followed by a lower compliance as the material of the tube &c. is compressed. The tubes springs &c. are designed to be completely flattened as some part of the waveguide touches the conduit, e.g. at a bend. Thereafter, the support stiffens considerably.
