A flexible rod for drain-clearing etc. comprises a flexible metal core 2, a wound metal sheath 3 and an intermediate tube 4 of plastics material such as polyvinyl chloride. Terminal sleeves 8 are retained in position by bending over the ends 2a of the core, and fittings 5 for connecting the rods end to end are secured to the rod by pins 10 transversely of but offset from the axis of the core.
