Abstract

1407277 Impact tools S B MAURER 21 Nov 1972 53820/72 Heading B3N A rotary impact tool comprises a housing 10, a motor, an output shaft 16 having an impact receiving jaw 23, an impact element 31, a cage member 14 driven by the motor and mounting the impact element, a ring-like hammer member 25 being mounted for rotary motion essentially in unison with the impact element but being capable of limited rotary motion relative thereto, and centrifugal means, rollers 21, mounted between the cage member and the hammer member operative periodically to force the hammer member to rotate ahead of the cage member which causes the impact member to be moved radially inward to impact jaw 23. In operation the motor picks up speed until rollers 21 are forced outwardly. This movement causes the hammer member to rotate ahead of the cage member through the rollers engaging cam surfaces 38. The relative rotation also causes cam surfaces 34 to move the impact elements inwardly. Cam surfaces are also provided for reverse rotation.
