Abstract

1278463 Rotary impact wrenches S B MAURER 9 Oet 1969 [10 Oct 1968] 49586/69 Heading B3N A rotary impact tool comprises a cage 14 carrying rollers 21, 22 surrounded by a hammer member 25, which parts serve to drive an output shaft 16. The rollers are mounted in slots 19, 20 in the cage and project into grooves 27, 28 in member 25. Fig. 2 shows impact roller 21 engaging the impact receiving jaw 23 of shaft 16. Further rotation of cage 14 forces roller 21 outwardly and consequently roller 22 is forced inwardly (see Fig. 3). When roller 22 meets jaw 23, Fig. 4, ring 25 is made to rotate ahead of the cage 14 as roller 22 is forced outwardly. Roller 21 is consequently moved inwardly and the tool is ready for another impact. The motor of the tool can be reversed in which case the function of the rollers 21, 22 is also reversed.
