Abstract
1407240 Refractory magnesia shapes STEETLEY (MFG) Ltd 11 Dec 1973 [11 Dec 1972] 57145/72 Addition to 1401282 Heading C1A A process for isostatically pressing a refractory magnesia grain material into a shape and then firing is disclosed, the materials being similar to the compositions of parent Specification 1,401,282, the grains having a particle size such that their surface area is from 0À10 to 0À90 m.<SP>2</SP>/gram. The refractory grain is preferably one which has been calcined or dead-burnt at, e.g. 1300‹ to 2000‹ C. and the material to be pressed will usually also contain some form of binder or lubricant such as methyl cellulose or a wax emulsion. Other refractory grains such as chrome ore zirconia or lime may be present. Typically the shapes are fired at temperatures in the range 1600‹ to 1900‹ C. and may be impregnated with tar or pitch afterwards. The shapes may take the form of bricks, crucibles etc.
