Abstract

1405919 Grinding PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 Nov 1972 [10 Nov 1971] 51307/72 Heading B3D A work support designed to enable a grinding machine, e.g. a surface grinding machine, to produce rounded corners, either internally or externally, comprises a work holder pivoted for translatory movement about an axis in a frame adapted to be secured to a slide table of the machine, the holder being constrained to substantially without changing its orientation. The holder is pivoted on cranks of variable throw to enable curvatures which differ along the length of a workpiece to be produced. The holder 28, shown carrying a workpiece 46, is mounted on a journal 31 the ends of which are pivoted in blocks 33 sliding in ways in discs 34. The latter are mounted on coaxial shafts 35 rotatable in synchronism in the support frame 25 by manual means 36-39. The orientation of the holder 28 is maintained by pillars 42 which are an easy fit in grooves in the holder and are carried by a plate 43 pivotally mounted on a slide 44. The eccentricity of the ends of the shaft 31 relative to the axis of the shafts 35 is determined by gauge blocks 40, the resulting skin being accommodated by the easy fit of the pillars 42 and the rotation of the plate 43.
