1405593 Carbon paper for use in a spiritreproducing copying process LAMSON INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 Oot 1972 [27 Oct 1971] 49892/71 Heading D2B [Also in Division C4] Carbon paper for use in a spirit-reproducing copying process comprises a support material carrying a substantially colourless coating containing a colour-former of the formula: and an aliphatic amine or an imine. In the formula, each of A and B represents a 1, 4- arylene residue, which may be substituted, each of R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> represents hydrogen or an alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl radical, which may be substituted, or forms part of a heterocyclic ring, Q represents -O- or -NR- where R represents hydrogen, hydroxyl, or an alloxy, amine, alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl radical, which may be substituted, and X represents hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical which may be substituted or contain one or more heteroatoms. The specification includes lists of suitable radicals, substituents, amines and imines. In the Examples, the composition also contains dodecylbenzyldimethylammonium chloride, castor oil, titanium dioxide, ethylcellulose, and silica and is applied from solution in toluene. Other components referred to are waxes, petroleum jelly, copolymers of vinyl acetate and vinyl chloride, polystyrene, cellulose acetate, alkyd and polyamide resins, mineral oils, lanoline, tallow, animal and vegetable oils. Reference is also made to solventless compositions applied melted. The support material may be paper, glassine, or a plastics film e.g. a polyester or polypropylene film.
