Abstract

1404766 Chloroprene/styrene copolymers BP CHEMICALS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 16 Nov 1972 [7 Dec 1971] 56689/71 Heading C3P Mixtures of 95-80 wt. per cent chloroprene and 5-20 wt. per cent styrene are coplymerized at 45-60‹ C. to 60-75% conversion in the presence of such an amount of alkyl xanthogen disulphide as to ensure a final copolymer having a Mooney viscosity (ML 1+4) of 30-130. Examples, conducted by emulsion techniques, demonstrate the criticality of monomer percentages, temperature and type of modifier.
