Abstract
140,457. Rowell, C. V. March 18, 1919, [Convention date]. Doors, lids, and covers.-In apparatus for preparing wheat, a heating barrel 25 is provided with a closure plate 18 which fits against a grooved gasket 24, and is permitted to adjust itself by means of a ball and socket mounting 20, springs 22, and a slot 40 connecting the arm 27 to the pivot 28. The closure is secured by a roller 41 which engages with the ramps 43 and is carried by arms 32 turning on eccentric bushes 33 which are adjustable on pins 36 by means of a screw 38. The arms 32 are lifted into the closing position by an hydraulic plunger 64 and a yoke 44 which is guided by pins 48, and is connected to the arms 32 by a pin-and-slot joint 111. In the closed position the springs 45 are compressed against the fixed projection 30, and the catches 46 engage above the beams 49 which are mounted on pivots 51 and can move outwardly against springs 53, Fig. 8, to allow the catches 46 to pass. In order to open the barrel suddenly, the bars 49 are moved by a cam 55 turned by a rack 60 attached to an hydraulic plunger 61. The yoke 44 is then forced downwards by the springs 45, buffers 69 being provided to check it.
