Abstract

1404493 Vanadium tetrachloride FEMIPARI KUTATO INTEZET 30 Aug 1972 [15 Oct 1971 30 March 1972] 40137/72 Heading C1A Vanadium tetrachloride is continuously prepared by reacting chlorine gas with metallic vanadium or vanadium ore in a reactor surrounded by a water-circulating cooling jacket, purifying the VCl 4 vapours formed, by passing them through a column of sodium chloride particles at a temperature of 250‹ to 300‹ C., the impurities forming a sodium chloride complex which is removed at a temperature of at least 300‹ C. and the purified VCl 4 vapours condensed. The amount of water circulating through the cooling jacket should be at least 20 times the rate of production of the end product.
