Abstract

1404128 Gap setting gauges IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 Aug 1972 [19 Aug 1971] 38936/71 Heading G1M A gap setting gauge in one form comprises a screw threaded rod 2 rotatable and axially movable by a wheel 3 in a frame 1, the rod being longer than the frame by the width of the gap to be set. In operation, two disassembled parts 4 and 7 to be gap set must be positioned during manufacture so that when they are brought together their surfaces 5 and 6 are spaced apart by the required gap, and to do this the frame 1 and the rod 2 are positioned so that their three shutting ends touch the three surfaces 4 and 5. The surfaces 6 and 7 of the other part are then brought into contact with the other ends of the frame 1 and rod 2 so that 5 and 6 are spaced apart the length of frame 1 plus the set gap. Thus, when the frame is removed and the disassembled parts are brought together the correct gap will exist between 5 and 6. In another form the frame may be a slotted tube fitted with spider members carrying the second member which may be a slide.
