Abstract

1404011 Adding material to molten metal FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd 6 June 1973 [21 June 1972] 29131/72 Heading C7D A plunging bell for introducing treatment material into molten metal, e.g. Mg-impregnated coke into B.F. iron, comprises disposable inner and outer containers, the space between the containers being filled by a bonded refractory material, e.g. silica-sand bonded with sodium silicate, which may be reinforced by steel wire fibres or mesh, or steel rings. Holes are provided in the refractory material prior to use, or polystyrene inserts may be provided which decompose during use. The inner and outer containers may be of metal, wood, plastics, cardboard or fibreboard, and the bell is fitted to a plunging rod.
