Abstract

1,214,38. Nodularizing cast iron. FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. May 23, 1969 [June 7, 1968], No. 27280/68. Heading C7D. A method of nodularizing molten iron comprises fixing to the base of the treatment vessel (e.g. ladle) a cellulosic fibrous container containing the nodulant (e.g. magnesium ferrosilicon, Ni/Mg, Ni/Si/Mg, Cu/Mg or flux compositions comprising magnesium halides and reducing agents) and then charging the iron into the vessel. The container may be made of paper, cardboard, wood, chipboard, blockboard or fibreboard, with a preferred wall thickness of 5 mm and may be impregnated with sodium silicate, a phosphate or synthetic resins and/ or coated with a refractory material. The containers may also consist in part of refractory fibres.
