Abstract

1403763 Bags R C BAKER 25 Oct 1972 [26 Oct 1971] 49269/72 Heading B8K [Also in Division B5] A packaging article is in the form of a disposable flexible envelope-like container having opposing walls, the internal surface of the walls being of fusible thermoplastic material and a part of the peripheral region of one wall of the envelope being folded inwards and united to the non-folded part of the same wall and also united to the opposite wall to form a releasable seal. In the preferred article, the sheet material forming each opposing wall 16 and 17 extends beyond releasable seal 24 to form a pair of flaps 25 and 26 for gripping, the material of flap 25 being folded back upon itself to extend as a partition 27 into the cavity of the envelope and form a rupturable seal. The envelope is sealed at its lateral ends by permanent seal structures (20, 21) whereby a pocket formed by rupture of the temporary seal can be turned inside out to enable direct application of the packaged product to a surface. The sheet material of the walls may comprise a polyester resin backing layer 23, a layer 22 of thermoplastic film or fibres and a layer of polyester fibres adhered to the layer 22 and becoming submerged therein on sealing. The sheet material may also include a barrier film, a priming layer, a vapour-deposited metal layer or a "recess-containing" layer of foam, fibrous web or flock material.
