Abstract

1403741 Two part couplings BOK ELECTRONICS Ltd 18 Oct 1972 [24 May 1972] 24484/72 Heading H2E A coaxial plug comprises a pin contact mounted in an insulating core and a conductive casing surrounding the core and the pin, the cable screen being trapped, in use, between the core and the casing. In Fig. 1 a nylon core 10 has a conical end face 18, a bore of two diameters 11, 12 and a circumferential step 20 and holds a hollow pin 13 comprising four resilient fingers 15 which bite against the cable conductor (not shown). The casing comprises a sheath 21 and a cap 27 which screw together around the core trapping the cable screen (not shown) between the conical surfaces 18, 28 with the end of the cable conductor insulation seating at the join of the diameters 11, 12. In another embodiment the pin is generally solid with a transverse bore (33, Fig. 8) for receiving the cable conductor and a shoulder (35) for securing the pin in a relatively narrow part of the bore of the core. In Fig. 14, the core 50 is moulded around or slipped over the pin 51 which has a circumferential bead for securing it to the core and two resilient fingers projecting from the core for mating with a complementary socket contact. The one-piece casing has a shoulder 55. An insulating sleeve 53 seats within a recessed end of the core and is inserted between the cable screen 61 and the cable conductor insulation in order to form a shoulder 57 on the outermost surface of the cable for bearing against the shoulder 55 as the casing 52 is eased over the cable insulation, screen and the core. Instead of the sleeve 53 a split cylindrical clip (58, Fig. 15) may be secured to the outside of the cable to bear against the shoulder 55.
