Abstract

1403462 Sterilizing packaging machines MEAD CORP 27 March 1973 [28 March 1972] 14774/73 Heading B8C [Also in Division A5] In a packaging machine of the form-fill-seal type, containers are formed in plastics sheet S1 from roll 1 by means of dies in press 9, are filled at station 10, and are sealed at press 12 by lids formed from plastics sheet S2 from roll 2, the sealed containers being severed at 13 from the webs, each web passing through a respective tank 6 and 14 of sterilizing hydrogen peroxide solution before the forming steps. The solution is circulated continuously via a heated reservoir tank by means of a pump and valved conduits. If the machine fails, the solution is quickly removed from tanks 6, 14 using the pump and gravity respectively, when certain valves are opened and closed.
