Abstract

1403150 Feeding sheets INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 10 Oct 1973 [4 Dec 1972] 47197/73 Heading B8R A sheet pile support comprises a base-plate 7 supporting a pile 22 and having a throat portion 11 co-operating with a knife blade 9 to prevent double feed. The rear end of the pile rests on freely rotatable rollers 4 carried on extensions 25 of a member 1 pivoted at its rear end and urged upwards by a spring. The rear end of the pile is pressed downwards by a roller 5 mounted on extension arms 16 of a plate 19 pivoted at 13 and urged downwards by spring 6. The front end of the pile is pressed downwards by a plate 8 having hubs 28 pivoted on the shaft 27 of the roller 5, so that the plate 8 is also pressed downwards by the spring 6. A pile 22 is introduced through an aperture 21 in a housing 20 on to the member 1, and as it is pushed on to the support it engages a plate 24 on the hubs 28 to raise the plate 19 and also forces the plate 8 upwards. Separating sheets.-When a solenoid 30 is energized, the member 1 is pulled downwards so that the pile comes into engagement with a continuously driven friction separator roller 18 which advances the bottom sheet into the nip of driven feed rollers 33, the solenoid then being de-energized to prevent advance of another sheet until it is again energized.
