Abstract

A solution of barium sulphide of a strength of 8-10 DEG B<\>ae and a temperature of 15-20 DEG C. is agitated and rapidly cooled to approximately 0-5 DEG C. in order to separate crystals of substantially pure barium hydroxide; the crystals are finally dried in an atmosphere free from carbonic acid, or in vacuo. Any barium sulphide in the crystals may be removed by a preliminary washing with a saturated solution of barium hydroxide, or by recrystallization. Specifications 7136/85 and 3406/86 are referred to.
