Abstract

125,311. Dawson, H. M. Sept. 11, 1918. Drawings to Specification. Sodium-ammonium sulphate.-The double salt Na2SO4.(NH4)2SO44H2O is obtained by cooling and crystallizing a solution containing ammonium sulphate and sodium sulphate obtained by absorption of ammonia in a solution of nitre cake or other acid sodium sulphate to which sulphuric acid has been added. The mother-liquid is restored to its original composition at the higher temperature by addition of nitre cake and sulphuric acid or of sodium bisulphate and neutralization with ammonia, and is again cooled and crystallized. A chart accompanies the Specification, showing solubility curves which indicate, for various temperatures, the compositions of solutions saturated respectively with ammonium sulphate, sodium sulphate, and the double salt, and which shows a closed curve indicating the concentrations and temperatures within the limits of which the double salt may be obtained by crystallization.
