Abstract

1402953 Support insulator LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS GmbH 5 March 1973 [6 March 1972] 10480/73 Heading H1N A support insulator 1 for a high voltage switch is provided with weakened points 2 which can blow out when gas pressure in the switch housing 11 rises above a safe level leaving the bulk of the insulator to continue in its support capacity. The support insulator can be of conical or disc shape, and the weakened points can be of a different material from the rest of the insulator. In the embodiment described the insulator supports a fixed contact member 9 which co-operates with a movable contact member 5 driven by a motor 4 and retained by a metal housing 6 supported by insulators 7 and 8. The weakened points 2 in the insulator are disc shaped.
