Abstract
1402721 Actuator for variable flush cistern T E YOUNGER 3 July 1973 [4 April 1972] 15335/72 Heading E1C An actuating device for a variable flush cistern comprises a shaft 1 journalled in a bush 3 for mounting on the cistern, the bush having a radially extending flange 4 with an axially extending, arcuate flange 5 having a stop finger 6, 7 extending from at least one end thereof, the shaft having an increased diameter portion 11 on one end having a surface 13 which engages the axially outer surface of the arcuate flange 5 during rotation of the shaft, a stop member 22 actuable by a push-button 19 so as to be axially movable in a bore between a retracted position, Fig. 2. and an extended position, Fig. 3. In the retracted position, the shaft 1 can be rotated from an inoperative position to a first rotated position in which the stop member 22 abuts the stop finger 7 and, in the extended position, the shaft can be further rotated to a second position in which the finger 7 engages in a slot in the member 22. On rotation of the shaft back to its inoperative position, the stop member 22 engages a cam surface 8 on the flange 4 to bias the member 22 and button 19 to the retracted position. Alternatively, the member may be spring biassed to the retracted position. In use, the end 2 of the shaft is linked to the cistern's flushing means.
