Abstract

1402206 Ceramic bodies SIEMENS AG 16 Feb 1973 [3 March 1972] 7860/73 Headings C1A and C1J A porous, gas permeable ceramic structure having a plurality of bores formed therethrough (N.B. different to pores) by forming a composition of one or more of alumina, magnesia, titania, zirconia, silica, magnesium aluminate, aluminium silicate, zirconium silicate or a silicon carbide material with a filler component which may be graphite or carbon black and also contains at least one combustible organic plasticizer and binder, compressing said composition into a block and passing pins through the block to form the bores, further compressing it without destroying the bores and calcining the resultant structure to burn out the filler component and form the porous structure. Claims 17 and 18 relate to a composition of 80-90 parts by wt. alumina, 10-20 parts MgO, and per 100 parts of H 2 O 3 + MgO, 2-4 parts of graphite, 2-4 parts of water soluble cellulose ether, 0À2-1 part of PVA, 2-10 parts of machine oil and 10-30 parts H 2 O.
