Abstract
1401545 Powder metallurgy LAMP METALS Ltd 3 Jan 1974 [6 Oct 1972 27 April 1973] 46146/72 and 20255/73 Heading C7D In the manufacture of wire, rod, strip sheet or foil, Mo, W or Mo-W, particles not greater than 10Á in dia are compressed to form a compacted bar which is heated to 1500‹-2700‹C to effect partial sintering, followed by a final sintering operation at a higher temperature e.g. 2100‹-3200‹C in a dry inert atmosphere, e.g. of Ar or He, the sintered bar being finally worked below the recrystallization temperature to the desired form. The first heating may be carried out in dry H 2 , in a vacuum, or in a dry inert gas; in the latter case, the heating is continuous until the final sintering temperature is reached. The Mo and/or W may also contain up to 5% Re, Ru, Ir, Os or Cr and up to 2% of K 2 O, SiO 2 or Al 2 O 3 . The heating is effected by passing a current through the bar.
