Abstract

1401305 Coated magnetic recording material IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES LTD 3 Aug 1973 [1 Sept 1972] 40672/72 Heading B2E A magnetic recording material comprises a molecularly oriented and heat set polyester film having a coating comprising vinyl chloride polymer particles on one surface and a magnetic coating on the other surface, the vinyl chloride polymer coating having a weight of 0.01 to 1.4 mgdm<SP>-2</SP>. The preferred film is polyethylene terephthalate which may be biaxially oriented. Biaxially oriented film may be further stretched in the transverse direction and then to a greater extent in the longitudinal direction. The coating may be applied prior to, during or after stretching, from aqueous dispersions followed by heating to dry the coating and fuse the particles to the film surface. The magnetic coating may be a ferromagnetic material applied by vacuum deposition, electroless plating, electrodeposition or as a dispersion in a resin binder e.g. polyurethane, cellulose acetate, cellulose nitrate. The recording material may be in the form of magnetic recording tape e.g. computer, audio or video tape.
