Abstract

1366034 Magnetic recording medium SONY CORP 24 April 1972 [26 April 1971] 19010/72 Heading B2E A magnetic recording medium comprises a non-magnetic organic polymeric base, a non- magnetic metal layer formed on the base and a magnetic coating layer formed on the metal layer on the base, in which the base has a thickness less than 25 microns and the metal layer has a thickness of 0.3-2 microns. Preferably the base is polyethylene terephthalate. The metal layer is preferably Ni or Cu which may be electroplated or electrolessly plated. γ-Fe 2 O 3 is specified, as a magnetic pigment to be applied to Ni on polyethylene terephthalate films, which may subsequently be coated with vinyl chloride resin, isocyanate resin, and/or vinylidene chloride - acrylonitrile copolymer. Carbon powder and lecithin, are alternative additives.
