Abstract

1400483 Reinforced hose DUNLOP Ltd 27 March 1973 [6 April 1972] 15786/72 Heading F2P In a method of making a reinforced hose 10, an extruded inner layer 11 is at least partially vulcanized, the outer surface is removed, a reinforcing layer 12 is applied and the hose is subsequently vulcanized. In one embodiment, as shown, the layer 11 is of a partially vulcanized polychloroprene mixture. The outer surface is buffed and receives a coat of adhesive. Textile braid 12 is applied on a braiding machine and a further layer 13 of polychloroprene is extruded over the braid. The hose is then vulcanized in a steam autoclave. The hose may be pressurized or supported on a rigid or flexible mandrel. In a further embodiment, the inner layer is of partially vulcanized styrene butadiene and the braid is replaced by a helically wound strip (22) (Fig. 2, not shown). Adhesive is applied to the inner layer and over the strip (22) and a further layer of rubber (23) is extruded before vulcanization. Alternatively, the reinforcement may comprise metal wire, braided or helically wound. The other layers may be of nitrile rubber or neoprene.
