Abstract

Tubing or ducts of rubber or of thermoplastic material are made by continuously coating a core made of flexible tubing which remains part of the prod. The support tubing may be of metal or plastics material, opt. having a ribbed or undulating profile, pref. preheated just prior to use. Opt. the support tubing is made by a strip winding technique. The coating may be applied by continuous dipping, extrusion coating or a spray-up process. The coating may be partially cured and subsequently post cured after external reinforcing sleeves have been applied. Used esp. for mfr. of relatively large bore tubing in lengths greater than can be laid up and removed from a conventional cantilevered solid core mandrel. Suitable for mfr. of long pipes or ducts for petroleum exploration, transfer of bulk fluids or powders, or enclosing telecommunications.
