Abstract
1400225 Determining distance photoelectrically VILLAMOS BERENDEZES ES KESZULEK MUVEK 1 Dec 1972 [3 Dec 1971] 55697/72 Heading G1A Apparatus for indicating competition results expressible as a length e.g. long-jump distances has a radiation emitter along one side of all or part of the competition area, signal detector means comprising N individual sensors on the opposite side each receiving radiation from the emitter and means for indicating or recording either all the sensors that are shielded from radiation or only that corresponding to the least distance. The apparatus may comprise a no-jump determining device which prevents an output. As shown, the apparatus can work in either mode and utilizes phototransistors 25 as radiation detectors . All bi-stables 30 and 31 are initially set to state 0 by switch 37. To record all interrupted sensors, switch 36 is in the upper position (logic 0) and the input passes via AND gate 27 (enabled via inverter 26) and sets bi-stable 30. The output of this passes enabled AND gate 32 and OR gate 34 and activates the associated indicator or recorder 35. To indicate only the detector corresponding to the shortest distance, switch 36 is in the lower positiun (logic 1). The signal passes via AND gate 28 and OR gate 29 to set bi-stable 31 to the 1 position. The output of this passes AND gate 33 (enabled by the 0 setting of the previous stage bi-stable and activates the indicator 35 via OR gate 34. The lowest switched bi-stable 31 switches all bi-stables 31 of higher stages via OR gates 29 and thus prevents the enabling of AND gates 33 of these stages so that the corresponding lamps 35 cannot be illuminated.
