Abstract

139,990. National Wire Manufacturing Co., Connor, R. D., and Slinger, R. P. July 5, 1919. Dies.-In an apparatus similar to that described in Specification 109,828 for re-setting wire-drawing dies, the reamering, burnishing and setting tools are carried by rotating spindles slidable in uprights carried by supports through the agency of toggle links so as to limit the downward travel to a given extent. The dies are mounted on tubular holders i* screwed to bars i adjustable in height in brackets d to ensure that the hole in the die is of correct diameter. A box i<1> for holding lubricant is clamped to each bar. The tools consist of a reamer k, a burnisher l for enlarging burnishing, and hardening the inner face of the die, and a setting tool m consisting of a hardened and tempered steel wire. The tools are carried by holders e<6> on spindles e<4> carried by tubular members e<3> which are mounted in a series of brackets e secured to supports c, which are clamped to brackets d on the frame a. The spindles are rotated by belts f<2> and are moved axially by toggle links h operated by handles h<1>, the links being connected to levers g, pivotally connected at g<4> to the tubular sliding members e<3> and at g<1> to links g<2>, pivoted to the brackets e at g<3>. The spindles are normally kept in the raised positions by springs g<5>. The frame a has a rotary table to hold the dies in a convenient position for the operator.
