Abstract

1399807 Wells &c CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 25 Jan 1973 3944/73 Heading E1F Petroleum fluid is recovered from an earth formation having an injection well and a production well by injecting animal blood or a fraction thereof into the formation from the injection well and thereafter pumping a drive fluid through the injection well and recovering petroleum fluid from the production well. Whole blood and an inhibitor to present premature polymerisation of fibrinogen to fibrin are first injected. Calcium in the reservoir water polymerises the blood, but if there is insufficient calcium in the reservoir water a coagulating agent may be added at injection. Animal blood may be added as a slug or mixed with the water as recovery proceeds. The drive fluid may be water or liquified gas or carbon dioxide:
