Abstract
1403952 Wells TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 9 July 1973 [27 July 1972 (3)] 32691/73 Heading E1F A process for recovering oil from an oilbearing reservoir comprises the steps of injecting via an injection well a slug comprising carbon dioxide under pressure or mixed with a light hydrocarbon or with a gas, such as methane, natural gas, separator gas, flue gas, nitrogen or air, whose solubility in the reservoir oil is less than that of carbon dioxide, which slug is not miscible with the oil in the reservoir but becomes miscible by vapourising intermediates from the oil, thereby forming a conditionally miscible transition zone, and then driving the oil to be recovered from a production well by injecting a driving agent. The driving agent may be air, nitrogen, combustion gas, separator gas, natural gas, methane, water and/or brine; a fluid which may be the same as the driving agent, may be injected into the well before the slug to increase the pressure of the reservoir.
