Abstract
726,712. Recovering subterranean oil. STANOLIND OIL & GAS CO. April 13, 1953, No. 9988/53. Addition to 696,524. Class 85, The process for the secondary recovery of underground oil described in the parent Specification which comprises injecting a liquid oil solvent into the subterranean reservoir and displacing the solvent with a scavenging fluid is improved in that the amount of solvent required is reduced by withdrawing a mixture of solvent and scavenging fluid from the transition zone between these media thereby reducing the length of this zone. The solvent, for example liquefied petroleum gas, is pumped into the subterranean reservoir 28 through a well 21 and forms a zone 16 which is then driven outwardly from the well by the injection into the well of a scavenging fluid, for example natural gas. The oil is displaced from the formation and withdrawn successively through wells 22, 23, 24 and 25 as zone 16 advances. As the transition zone 17 behind the solvent zone 16 reaches each well, for example well 23, a mixture of liquefied petroleum gas and natural gas is withdrawn and passed into a separator 31 whence the solvent is reintroduced into zone 16 through line 32 and well 24 whilst the natural gas is recycled to the input well 21.
