Abstract

1403957 Wells TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 11 Sept 1973 [22 Dec 1972] 42669/73 Heading E1F In a method of producing formation fluids including hydrocarbons from a formation 11, water is injected through a well bore 13 extending through the formation of an aquifer 12 to create a bottom drive, and an extraneous fluid is injected adjacent the interface 16 between water and formation fluid to provide a gradient barrier 24. Thus rising of the interface in the region of the well bore, and passage of water to production perforations 15 is inhibited. The extraneous fluid may be butane, propane or recovered formation fluid, and may be thickened.
