Abstract

1398937 Vehicle detector GEC - ELLIOTT TRAFFIC AUTOMATION Ltd 6 May 1974 [4 May 1973] 21310/73 HeadingGlN [Also in Division G4] In a vehicle detector system utilizing the fall in inductance as the vehicle passes over a loop L, pulse generating means produces a number of pulses in a marked period dependent on loop inductance and means for determining that number at intervals and affording a representation of vehicle presence in dependence on a comparison of that number at different times. In the embodiment loop L is longer than a normal motor, and may extend over every lane is no discrimination between lanes is required. Oscillator 3 generates a sinusoidal signal of frequency dependent on loop inductance and a selector 5 counts the oscillation cycles to produce a marked period (say 100 oscillation periods) followed by an interval (say 50 oscillation periods). A counter 8 counts pulses from a clock 6 in the marked period and is reset before each count, the count being lower when a vehicle is present. Low counts are stored in store 1 and high counts in store 2, and a store 9 controls traffic signals. A logic chart for determining current count transfer is described, Fig. 2 (not shown). The system takes account of enviromental changes.
