Abstract
1398718 Making aircraft and missile structures MICROCOMB STRUCTURES Ltd 12 Sept 1972 [8 Sept 1971] 41859/71 Heading B3A [Also in Divsion E1] A metallic body, or core of a sandwich structure, of generally plate-like form, which is of cellular formation with the cells open to the major surfaces of the body or core, has one or more selected areas of its major surfaces reinforced by rigid metallic elements preferably of stainless steel which are fitted either in individual cells or in recesses encompassing a number of the cells so as to lie within the volume bounded by the major, unreinforced, area of those surfaces. As shown, a body 17 for an aerofoil e.g. a wing or fin of an aircraft or missile is of cellular form and is reinforced by metal slugs 18 or/and by metal reinforcing plates welded in a shallow recess or recesses 19.
