ICHISEIKA COLOR & CHEMICALS MFG CO Ltd 12 Oct 1972 [17 April 1972] (3)] 47045/72 Heading C4P [Also in Division C2] Disazo dyes of formula wherein Y is A represets the atoms necessary to complete a benzene, naphthalene, anthracene, dibenzofuran, carbazole or benzocarbazole ring which may be substituted, R 1 , R 4 and R 5 are aryl groups which may be substituted, R 2 and R 3 are H or halogen atoms or nitro, alkyl, alkoxy, carboxyl, carboxamide, sulphone or sulphonamide groups and R 6 is a CH 3 , COOH or alkoxycarbonyl group are prepared by diazotizing an amine of formula and decomposing the diazonium compound in the presence of a reducing agent. Specified reducing agents are salts, oxides and sulphides of the metals Cu, Al, Ti, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni and Sn having a valency in the compound lower than its maximum valency or an alkali metal salt of a reducing inorganic acid containing S or P.
