Abstract
1397818 Sintering iron-base-alloys ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 17 Oct 1972 [18 Oct 1971] 47778/72 Heading C7D Iron-base alloy powders are isostatically hot pressed in two stages, one stage at a temperature such that at least 25% of the alloy is α-phase, the other at a temperature such that the alloy is substantially completely in the γ-phase. It is preferred to effect the α-phase heating first, but if the reverse order is adopted an intermediate cooling stage to below the α-phase temperature is incorporated. Typical temperatures are 700- 950 C for the α-phase and 950-1225 C for the γ-phase heating. It is stated that such a process avoids the need for subsequent forging or rolling to obtain desired degree of compaction. Preferred apparatus is similar to that disclosed in Specification 1299043, and includes apparatus for an initial isostatic cold-pressing operation.
