Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve abrasion resistance and heat resistance by heating tool steel powder at the temperatures higher by further 30°C from the carbide initial melt appearing temperature then subjecting the same to hot forging at the time of molding and sintering the same by a hot hydrostatic pressing method.
CONSTITUTION: Powder of tool steel such as high speed steel or the like in which addition metal elements exist as non-solid solution is molded and sintered by a hot hydrostatic pressing method. This sintered product is heated for more than 1 hour at the temperature range of Tm°C to Tm+30°C where the carbide initial melt appearing temperature thereof is let to be Tm°C, whereby the carbides are coarsened. Next, it is hot forged at a forging ratio 2 or over to eliminate the network structure of the carbides kwhich have been formed through the coasening treatment and which are the cause for decreased toughness, thereby leaving only the coarsened carbide particles. The molding becomes the tool steel of high performance by reproducing the texture of superior abrasion resistance and heat resistance.
