Abstract
1397815 Telescopic loading tube; loading tankers COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'AUTOMATISME 11 Oct 1972 [11 Oct 1971] 46921/72 Headings B8T and B8E A telescopic loading tube for fluid or pulverulent materials is suspended from an overhead carriage 3 on a transverse arm 4 and frame 5 capable of moving parallel to the direction of movement of a tank to be filled or emptied. Support cables 13, suspended from pulleys 11 are attached to opposite sides of the external portion 14 of the loading tube; which has exit holes 15 at its lower end near end plate 16. The inner portion of the telescopic tube 17, joined at its upper end to inlet pipe 18, is rigidly attached to a collar 19, which is elastically linked by springs 20 to a disc cover 21. Watertight joints 26 connect inner tube 17 with outer tube 14. A closure sleeve 27 is attached to outer tube 14, and shoulder 28 bears on the periphery of a deflector 29 on end plate 16; and an exhaust pipe 32 is attached to sleeve 27. On lowering the pipe, sleeve 27 co-operates with tank neck 31 and allows cover 21 to descend to contact sleeve 27 and prevent collar 19 with the attached inner loading tube 17 from further downward movement, but does not prevent outer portion 14 from continuing to the bottom of the tank where it is stopped, since cables 13 are free to run in openings 33, 34 in collar 19 and cover 21. To ensure that tubes 14 and 17 are held together during the initial descent, a cam 36, arranged between the end of rod 37 of a jack 38 placed between collar 19 and cover 21, is pivoted about an axls 39 so that spiral spring 41 operates and engages edge 42 of cam 36 into notch 43 on tube 14. Automatic disengagement occurs when crown 30 of sleeve 27 engages on tank neck 31 causing collar 19 to approach cover 21 and thus engaging projection 44 on cam 36 against abutment 45 to disengage edge 42 from notch 43.
