Abstract

1386650 Sliding gate valves STOPINC AG 8 Dec 1972 [10 Dec 1971] 56686/72 Heading F4B A sliding gate nozzle for a metallurgical vessel of the kind provided with a detachable guideway on which the nozzle carrier 11 slides has main fastening means 17 to locate and secure the guideway to the bottom of the vessel and secondary fastening means operative when the main fastening means are released to support the guide in a position such that worn parts of the gate can be replaced. In the form shown the main fastening means 17 may consist of bolts and the secondary fastening means of a pivot 24, the pivot hole 22 being enlarged to provide freedom of movement when the main fastenings are re-tightened. In another form the secondary fastening consists of a flexible coupling at each end of the guideway so that when the main fastenings are withdrawn the guideway is suspended at a suitable distance below the bottom of the vessel to allow the gate parts to be withdrawn. The couplings may be chains or steel ropes. In another form the guideway is mounted to slide down a vertical rod on one side when the main fastenings have been released, the rod having a head at the lower end to retain the guideway in the lower position. It may then be swung out from beneath the gate mechanism. In the form of Fig. 6 (not shown) the guideway is hinged on one side as in Fig. 1 and the upper gate member is hinged to the box 1 on the other side. This hinge is readily releasable for replacing the upper gate member.
