Abstract
514,423. Refuse containers. WALKER BROS. (WIGAN), Ltd., WALKER. D., and ELFORD, E. J. March 30, 1938, No. 26542/39. Divided out of 513,782, [Group XXXII]. [Class 26] A container for the collection and transport of refuse, is formed with a continuous or dnterrupted flanged band extending round it preferably above mid-height for engagement with a yoke, girdle or other suitable lifting-means. As illustrated for use with the refuse-collecting vehicle described in Specification 513,782 the container is provided with the flanged band 49a which is engaged by the two-part embracing and securing ring 49 mounted on trunnions and carrying rollers 56 engaging guide rails 47, also being fitted with eyes for the attachment of cables 61 running to a winch 66. As the container is hauled up the guides, the projecting arms 59 on the ring engage stops 78 and rotate it into the dotted-line position 44. Preferably the securing ring is fitted between upper and lower flanges on the container band with a certain amount of play between the ring and the bands, thus allowing the tipped container to move relatively to and bump against the ring to dislodge sticking contents. Also, during the inversion, projections 95 on the hinged lid of the container are arrested by ramps 96 so that the lid is retained and thus opened while the body of the container completes the tipping- movement. At the same time the continued forward movement of the container slides the opened lid into the position shown at. 97. In some cases the projections 95 are detachable and are fitted to the lids when the container is ready for hoisting. In some cases the lids themselves are detachable and are fitted to the containers during transport and emptying only. In such cases the hinge 100 ds fixed to the lid and is clamped adjustably to the container body by screw-mechanism which can be set so that the pointers 107, 108 are in line, thus positioning the members 95 correctly in relation to the ramps 96.
