Abstract

1397787 Feeding sheets JOS HUNKELER AG FABRIK FUR GRAPHISCHE MASCHINEN 30 Oct 1972 [1 Nov 1971] 50015/72 Heading B8R [Also in Division B6] In a method of and apparatus for producing a continuous web with attachments, e.g. multiple or single leaf forms, labels or the like, the web is moved in one direction and the attachments moved towards it in the opposite direction attached and laid down on the web. The web 4 has transport perforations which are engaged by a spiked belt which feeds the web intermittently from a pile 3 past a gluing station 7 where glue spots, lines or areas are applied by nozzles 30 on arms pivotable about a shaft 27. During this gluing phase, an attachment 12 to be attached to the web is separated from the bottom of a pile 11 on a table 10 with the aid of air blasts in the directions of arrows 69, 71 and tiltable suction heads 70, the attachment being held between two clamps 58, 60 on a pivotable arm 54 and drawn from the pile 11 to be placed on the web against stops 44. The clamps are then released and the attachment held against the web by a spring (42), Fig. 9 (not shown) which is supplemented by press fingers (41) which cause the attachment to adhere to the web at points previously treated with the glue. The web, with attachments, is then fed on and stacked on an adjustable height table 19, the attachments 12 being engaged by an arm 81 to ensure correct stacking. The attachments may be spaced on the web so as to overlap. Two webs may be fed side by side. Web edge trimmers, a transverse perforating device and a numbering apparatus may also be incorporated.
