Abstract

1396924 Stud and socket fastenings A A X SILVIUS 9 June 1972 [10 June 1971[27079/72 Heading E2B [Also in Division F2] A connecting device for interconnecting plates or boards comprises a body portion 6, Fig 1 and a plurality of plate or board engagement portions each with its root end adjacent to the body portions and extending generally radially from the body portion relatively to an axis passing through the body portion each plate or board engagement portion having a pair of parallel portions 5 or flanges which are thickened in the axial direction of the device and flank a thinner portion and which extend longitudinally of the plate or board engagement from its root end, solely in use the thinner portion of each plate or board engagement portion may be inserted longitudinally into a notch 3 which extends perpendicularly to and inwardly from an edge of a respective one of the plates or boards and which is capable of snugly receiving the thinner portion whilst the flanges or thickened portions serve to locate the plate or board engagement portion relatively to the associated respective plate or board in a direction perpendicular to the faces of the plate or board and to the direction of insertion of the plate or board engagement portion into the notch. The device 1 Fig 1, is resilient and comprises a body portion 1 connected to web portion 4 having thicker portions 5. The device may comprise two or three web portions with flanges connected to the body portion. As shown in Fig 3, the engagement portions are H shaped in cross section and in Fig 5 they have the shape of a double dovetail. As shown in Fig 8a the end flanges are stepped and the web portion 104 engages in a slot 113 in an adaptor 14 fitted into the slot in the board. Without the adaptor the stepped flanges enable plates or boards of different thicknesses to be connected, Fig 8d (not shown). The device may consist of two parts releasably connected by a pin and socket fastening. The device may comprise a disc, 220, Fig 14e, which is divided into quarters by radial slots each quadrant having a slot for two pairs of interconnecting pieces 223a, 223b, each piece having a slotted flange 225 to engage a board into a notch of which part of the disc has been inserted. An insertion 525 in the slot in the flange enables boards of different thickness to be retained. As shown in Fig 16, the device comprises caps 333a, 333b with pins 332 and openings 338 for interconnecting and securing apertured extensions 330 on the web portions 334. As shown in Fig 17, web portions 364 are detachable from the body portion and are securable to arms thereon by pins 381. Alternatively the body portion may comprise a slotted rectangle and the web portions have an H cross section. The device may not be resilient in which case the plates boards are resilient.
