Abstract

1396386 Controlling strip metal feeds; stamping A R ST DENIS 30 May 1972 [4 June 1971] 25180/72 Headings B3W and B3Q A device for feeding strip metal to a processing machine, e.g. a cutting or stamping press, comprises a pair of feed rolls 12, a measuring wheel 26, a rotary transducer 27 for generating pulses proportional to the rotation of the wheel and an electronic counter 28 for controlling motor 16 for driving the feed rolls. The counter has two output relays which have two conditions of operation, one condition allows high speed drive of the rolls; actuation of one relay from one condition to the other reduces the drive speed of the rolls and actuation of the second relay also to the other condition stops the drive of the rolls. Each relay has a series of controls presettable to actuate the relay from one condition to the other after a predetermined pulse count. Actuation of the second relay may also initiate operation of the press, the press on completion of an operating cycle tripping a switch to re-set the counter and re-start the motor 16. The wheel 26 is preferably spring- biased at 24 against the strip and acts against a counter roller 21. The transducer is preferably photo-electric.
