Abstract
1352858 Producing wire and strip; shearing EVG ENTWICKLUNGS-U VERWERTUNGS GmbH 20 Dec 1971 [22 Dec 1970] 59144/71 Headings B3A and B3W A machine for straightening and cutting material in the form of metal wire or strip into lengths comprises a straightening device 20, Fig. 1, a conveyer 1, 2, a shearing device 31, an adjustable required-length transmitter 42, Fig. 3, for controlling the length of material to be cut off, a measured-length sensor 35 for measuring the length of material conveyed through the machine, and an adjustable number-of-cuts counter 44 to reset the measured-length sensor after each shearing action, the measured length sensor and required-length transmitter both being connected to a comparison circuit 41 which compares the length sensed by the sensor with that of the transmitter. The machine further comprises a programming system, Fig. 4 (not shown), which includes a plurality of required-length transmitters and number-ofcuts counters arranged in pairs which can be energized one after the other and may represent different batches of cut lengths. The straightening device 20 consists of fixed lower rollers 21 and adjustable upper rollers 22 and the conveyer consists of two sets of rolls 1, 2. Lower rolls 2 are acted upon by a spring 3 supported by a rod 5 and guide plate 4 and driven by a motor 11. The lower rolls can be raised and lowered, so as to grip and release the material, using a pneumatic cylinder 10. The shearing device 31 is operated via an eccentric 29 and a connecting rod 30 which are coupled by way of a pneumatic coupling to a flywheel 27 driven by motor 11. Electropneumatic valve 32 controls the admission of compressed air to cylinder 10 and also controls the shearing device. The measuredlength sensor 35 comprises a measuring wheel 36 which rides against the surface of the material and drives a pulse transmitter disc 38a between the arms of a pulse transmitter fork 38, which may be constructed as a photo-electric or magnetic sensor. Pulses from the fork are transmitted to a pulse divider 39 and thence to a pulse counter 40 which is connected to the comparison circuit 41. When the required length is obtained a pulse is delivered to counter 44 and rolls 2 are lowered to stop advance of the material and both the cut counter 46 and shearing device 31 are actuated. Two or more straightening devices may be arranged to operate in parallel with each other, both feeding to a common shearing device and controlled by a common system.
