Abstract

1396337 Dehydrating aluminium fluoride hydrate CHEMIE LINZ AG 22 Aug 1972 [6 Sept 1972 11 Feb 1972] 39148/72 Heading C1A Aluminium fluoride anhydrate is prepared by dehydration of an aluminium fluoride hydrate, e.g. trihydrate in two dehydration sections, a first dehydration to a maximum water content of 10% by weight being carried out in the first section utilizing a disc dryer in which the material is heated in several temperature steps over the course of 10 to 20 minutes to a temperature of 190‹ to 220‹ C. the disc temperature being 240‹ to 280‹ C. whilst the water vapour formed is continuously expelled from the dehydration zone by a supply of hot air in an amount such that the atmosphere above the material in the step which is at a temperature of at least 190‹ C. has a water content of at most 6% by weight and the water content in the collected vapours of the first dehydration section, which leave the individual heating steps, does not exceed 22% by weight, after which the material obtained after a total residence time of at most 30 minutes in the first dehydration section is substantially completely dehydrated in a fluidized bed at a temperature up to 600‹ C.
