Abstract

1396176 One-way brakes C F PRINS 20 Sept 1972 43513/72 Heading F2E A brake, allowing rotary motion of a shaft in one direction only, comprises brake means encircling a rotatable drum 4 in an oil filled chamber, a lever 8 one end being connected to the brake means and having a fulcrum 32 towards its other end, the lever also being connected to the other end of the brake means to provide the one way braking, this being aided by the oil. The brake means comprises two pivotally connected parts 6, 7 the of part 7 having a groove accepting an axially split pin 15 held on the lever 8 and forming the connection. Anti-clockwise rotation of the drum 4 induces liquid movement to move the parts 6, 7 into engagement with the drum by downward lever movement acting on the pin 15. However, clockwise rotation induces brake release through the lever movement. Brake means adjustment is by nuts 23, 24 on a rod 21. The brake means parts 6, 7, and/or the drum 4 have axial grooves to allow liquid drain-off during braking.
