Abstract

1396127 Anode structure for mercury cathode cells C CONRADTY 26 June 1972 [17 July 1971] 29849/72 Heading C7B A structure comprising cell top and anode for an amalgam heavy duty electrolysis cell comprises a plurality of elongated current supply members 1 which are connected via contact strips (or studs) 2 made of valve metal (i.e. Ti, Ta, Nb, Hf, Zr, Mo, W or alloy thereof) to replaceable anode grids or bars 14, formed of valve metal coated with a platinum metal or compound thereof e.g. an oxide, carbide, nitride, silicide or boride, or base metal oxide or mixture thereof, and a cell screen formed by valve metal sheets 3 welded to the contact strips 2 so as to seal off the current supply members from the interior of the cell. Various means are described for securing the current supply members 1 to the contact strips 2 and the contact strips to the anode grids or bars 14, Figs. 2-13, 15 (not shown).
