Abstract
1396016 Bore gauges J MEIER 17 July 1972 [16 July 1971] 33378/72 Heading G1M A bore gauge comprises a probe 1 having an axially movable pin 4 radially displacing two or more balls 2 which abut a hard metal or sapphire disc 7. The pin 4 has limit stops 14, 15 adjustable by means of nuts 12, 13, and displaces a pin 16 which carries a stop 25 pressing against springs 18, 24. Normally movement of the pin 16 displaces a member 17 and a pin 21 of a measurement member 5 but if the force on pin 4 is exceeded then relative displacement between 16 and 17 can take place by overcoming the spring 18. A ring 26 with a pin 27 movable in a helical groove around the casing 23 is used to move the pin 16 against the spring 24 when the gauge is initially inserted into a bore to be measured, and then by rotating the ring 26 in the opposite direction, the pin 16 is released to press the balls 2 against the bore wall. By undoing a thread connection 22 a probe of a different range of measurement may be attached to the casing 23. In Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), a stop member 36 is provided to limit the depth of introduction of the gauge into a bore, and the member 36 may also be used to centralise the gauge. In Fig.7 (not shown), a front part (38) of a stop member (39) may be arranged in two different ways and can be threaded to the stop member or be held magnetically. If Fig.2 the K has a tangent of 0.5 as that a radial displacement of x of one ball 2 results in a displacement of pin 4 by 2x thus matching the change in diameter and giving a direct reading on the gauge 5.
