Abstract

1396011 Superconductive alternator rotors SOC GENERALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES ET MECANIQUES (ALSTHOM) 7 July 1972 [8 July 1971] 32041/72 Heading H2A An electrical cryo-alternator rotor 1, e.g. of stainless steel has formed in the rotor body a continuous groove 2, e.g. of rectangular spiral pattern, about the axis of each pole, each groove having a winding disposed therein and sealed in a fluid-tight manner by a respective block 7 soldered at 8 to the top of the groove, the body being provided at one end with drilled holes 3, 4 connected to the grooves for the supply and evacuation of a cryogenic cooling fluid, e.g. helium to and from the grooves. The winding is composed of four stacks 9 ... 19 of ribbon conductors separated by epoxy-glass insulation 13, 14, 15, and the helium flows from a supply chamber 18 to outlet chambers 22, 23 via passages 16, 17, 19, 20, 21.
